How can we help you to learn to drive?
Learning to drive can be difficult. Not only do you need to gain the skills to control your vehicle but you also need to gain the experience and knowledge to interpret correctly what you see on the road, anticipate the behaviour of others and then have the competence and confidence to act appropriately.
To help you achieve safe driving for life we will work with you, providing a professional, friendly and supportive environment. We want you to look forward to your lessons, not dread them. Your lessons will be planned in advance and will be based on your rate of progress and your areas of strength and weakness. You will be taught how to drive on all types of urban environments as well as country roads and of course we will teach you how to manoeuvre your car in order to turn it around and to reverse park as well as to stop in an emergency.
We like to use visual aids in our teaching methods because experience has shown that people learn faster when they are used. They are used to explain new subject matters and when explaining driving situations that arise during the course of the lesson.
Preparing you for the test
To prepare you for the practical driving test, we introduce 'mock' driving tests which will be based as closely as possible to the real thing, even to the point of asking two of the show me/tell me questions you will be asked on the test. All possible show me/tell me questions and answers including a photo of under the bonnet can be viewed here for manual cars and here for automatic cars.
These mocks will be given by your instructor but for even closer test conditions we can also offer another Right Gear instructor to undertake the test.
We also have extensive knowledge of the areas we cover which is critical to tackle the test with confidence and improve your overall likelihood of success.
Once you have passed
Pass Plus
New drivers are statistically more likely to be involved in an accident than more experienced drivers. This is because they have yet to experience all different forms of driving in a variety of weather conditions. For this reason the DSA have introduced the Pass Plus scheme for new drivers. This programme covers driving on motorways, dual carriageways, out of town roads, town driving, all weather conditions and night driving. On successful completion of this course you will gain greater knowledge and experience on these topics in a safe environment. However, the benefits don’t stop there; you can also significantly save on your car insurance.
Refresher lessons
We offer refresher lessons for full licence holders that are tailored to your needs. You may not get the opportunity to drive regularly or may wish to gain greater experience on a number of aspects of your driving such as motorways, country roads or parking. If this is the case we would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your driving and propose a customised solution.
